Current Project: WORLD with music and lyrics composed by Joan Schubert
Joan has finished her new piece entitled WORLD. It is a dance tune inspired by local Minneapolis musician, Prince Rogers Nelson. Kathleen Johnson and Tony Axtell did the "heavy lifting" of the vocals of the piece and they were magnificent! Tony also played drum set, bass, piano, and engineered WORLD. David Feily added background guitar work and played an amazing Prince-like guitar solo. 🌎
Butterfly by Herbie Hancock
Joan had help from Tony Axtell, sound engineer and musician, with the audio portion of Butterfly by Herbie Hancock. If you have heard this interesting and funky tune, you know it will deliver in both sound and energy. Not only was Tony the engineer, he played bass, keyboard, and added percussion and sound effects. Pianist, Donnie La Marca, performed the piano solo near the end of the tune and balanced perfectly with Joan's flute sound. Joan played the melody and improvised solo in the middle of the piece. Give it a listen!
The Celestial Suite
One of Joan's recent compositions is a short, classical piece written for flute and piano. The writing is in the style of composer, Erik Satie, an eccentric French composer living in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Joan's intention for this piece was for it to be dreamy, impressionistic, and for the listener to keep wanting more. Ms. Linnea Champ, performing on a Steinway grand piano, accompanies Joan in this video.
